Hypospadias repair and foreskin reconstruction

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Life goes by so quickly. But every time I read a comment from a family and tears well up, I know it’s time. We went through this, we still live this and families all over the world are going through it. We’re still shaking off sand from our first ever real family vacation. We went to the island of Maui. And even though it

Hypospadias boys after repair

Sometimes, for months I think about sitting down and blogging. Now with the holidays, a floppy new puppy, work at my agency busier than ever and a husband experiencing health issues, I feel the weight of world on my shoulders. Many of us do. But this morning I woke, coffee in hand and sat down to read a comment from the second mama who reached out to me this week. Amongst

Potty training after hypospadias

It’s summer. And as for most of us, it’s flying by. School shopping is done and the little ones are getting ready for the change of seasons, earlier bedtimes and cooler weather. Last year at this time things were’t as fun. I believe we had a supra pubic catheter just put in or about to be. We had tragically lost our 6 year old lab in the middle of it all. And

Circumcision in hypospadias repair?

Sometimes I want to blog but I don’t know what to write. I get stuck as we all do with life, kids, the business, busyness. Which is kind of odd, given the volumes of hours I’ve spent researching hypospadias and since it was colossal for us for so long. But I talk to a lot of moms. So I’ll share a recent conversation (removing specifics and generalizing the situation). I’ve recently spoke with a

Hypospadias in animals

Following my son’s urethroplasty when his voiding was dysfunctional, I researched. And I researched some more. I was trying to find some kernel of information I believed I was missing. Something that hadn’t been brought up, I hadn’t asked or hadn’t perhaps *ever* been thought of.  After all, we’re moms right? I needed to overturn every stone, ask every expert and understand as best as I could what was going on and

Long term results

Emmett just turned 2. And while for most, hitting the 2-year mark alone is a cause for celebration, for me it’s a graceful reminder that we’re that much further along and still doing fantastic. It’s funny how life goes, isn’t it? We can get caught up in so many things. Bills, relationships, travel, work, drama and strife, but when something happens with one of our children, like hypospadias surgeries, healing and recovering, maybe

Vaccintations and severe hypospadias, and adult immunizations

I have to get on my soapbox for a moment. I’ve been quiet on the vaccine topic. And to be clear up front, this article isn’t about which side of the vaccine debate I’m on or what I believe to be right. It’s about my decision with my son and why I made it – and a few interesting changes on the horizon with adult immunizations. As a mom I believe to each their own. I believe

In this together

I receive so many emails from mamas in similar situations. Many who have sons with mild, or glandular, and are in the process of deciding whether to repair or not and a vast majority of others who have sons with penile, penoscrotal or perineal hypospadias. It’s a tough process, and one that’s saved for only the strongest of mamas. There’s conflicting information online regarding the right time to repair, if you should repair glandular hypospadias,

A successful repair

When I sat down to write this post after a long hiatus, I couldn’t think of the right title. Among those most fitting was “Ha-lle-lu-jah”. I settled on one that’s descriptive if you’re just jumping in to this blog and included what made it possible. A successful penoscrotal hypospadias repair: faith, love — and an amazing surgeon I couldn’t blog for awhile. I wanted to be confident of where we were, and that we’d stay there. When we

Waiting for a stream

I’ve been sitting around watching my no-diapered 18-month old prince since we returned from Dallas this week. My husband says I’m obsessed. I’m pretty sure he’s right. I tie up his shirts with a hairband and tuck the end of his supra pubic catheter port around the back to allow me the best seat in the house while he drinks his bottle, and I wait for the stream to come. I don’t
